I am really surprised at how relatively inexpensive the Charlie Chaplin cane is, considering how iconic an image Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp is in American cinema. I thought the price would be much higher, like in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Speaking of Yul Brynner, they also are auctioning off his hat from

The Magnificent Seven

These are just opening bids. I am sure when the live auction kicks off the prices will go much higher. There are several Chaplain canes on the list, including one used in the movie Chaplain.

I'm surprised that a hat (even if it is one as iconic as Odd Job's) is opening at over $7,000 more than an entire Superman Costume! If it was one of the nipple suits from Batman Forever, I'd understand.

But, c'mon! You don't get much more iconic than Reeve's Superman!

The thing is that Reeves Superman suits are a dime a dozen in the Hollywood collectors market. One pups up on ebay every few months. They made many many suits for the movie in varying shades, colors, styles, and levels of "completeness" (i.e. some missing the "S"). There are two Reeves Superman costumes in this auction. Odd Jobs hat though - iconic as part of the Bond series and there were only two of them.

What suprised me more was that the opening bid was higher than the Wicked Witches hat from The Wizard of Oz.

My favorite piece of Reeves Superman memorabilia is recounted in this post: http://jojofries.livejournal.com/23718.html

You know ... I was looking through these and saw the Flash Gordon mask and took a gander at the rest of the auctions and, well, to use a phrase my Aunt Christy made famous at my house growing up ... "I sense deceit!".

Here's why. I see they are currently auctioning off Houdini's Milk Can Escape prop. And I quote, "Formerly the property of the Houdini Magical Hall of Fame in Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada." Problem with that is the one they say they have, is wrong. David Copperfield bought that at the Houdini Auction in Vegas, which was, oddly enough, held at the Liberace Museum. He walked away with the majority of the lots.

I also saw they have the "Highlander" sword, except, well, that the hilt is upside down, so unless they rebuilt it, it's the incorrect sword, the hero sword. It could, however, be a standby or stunt, but I don't know. Seem's fishy, lol.
